
Golden Eagles Soar in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -- Jorman Reyes and Daniel Merker recorded a huge upset to make it to the Round of 16 at the Southern ITA-Regionals.
Reyes and Merker beat Jackson State's duo Austin McCormick and Shao Chun-Lui 8-5 in the first round Friday morning. The Golden Eagles pair moved on to face the number 4 seed of Tulane in the round of 32. Reyes and Merker pulled off the big upset and won 8-3.
Reyes and Merker are scheduled to play Tuki Jacobs and Juan Cruz Soria from South Alabama Saturday, at 8 a.m.
Wen-Po Tseng and Chao-Yu Huang started doubles action with a bye then went on to also face a pair from Tulane in Jonathan Star and Eric Wagner. The Golden Eagles' 8-0 victory moves them into the Round of 16 to face Paolo Cucalon and Pablo Caffarena of Jackson State at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Merker also had success in singles action on day one. Merker won his first match in two sets against Michael Kritzinger of Louisiana Lafayette 6-3, 6-2. Merker forced a third set against Mississippi State's Straninia Rakic but lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Po-Tseng and Teeradon Tortrakul both won their first matches in singles action. Po-Tseng defeated Jamie Frasier from Lafayette 6-3, 6-2. He forced Alabama's Mazen Osama, the third seed of the tournament, into a third set but fell short and lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Tortrakul beat Samford's Justin Ghavami 7-5, 6-1 but loss to Filip Kraljevic from Ole Miss 6-0, 6-4.
Doubles action resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m. along with singles action starting at 4 p.m.
