Men's Golf Completes Kenny Perry Invitational in Eighth Place

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final-round 307 to finish eighth Tuesday in the Kenny Perry Invitational at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Golden Eagles completed the 54-hole with a stroke total of 909 at the par 72, 7,219-yard course.
Freshman Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) led the way for the Golden Eagles with a final-round 73 to finish with a 220 and in a 16th-place tie. Junior Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta) tied for 32nd after a final-round 80 to end with a 227 stroke total.
Southern Miss freshman Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.), along with sophomore Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.), each shot a 77 to both finish the tournament with a 232 total and with a 49th-place tie. Sophomore Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) added an 87 over his final 18 holes to finish at 242 and in 66th place.
Sophomore Willie Hammond (Southlake, Texas), playing as an individual, fired a 79 on the final day to end with a 234 and in a 54th-place tie.
Eastern Kentucky captured the team title with a four-under par 860, followed by Jacksonville State (869), host WKU (871), Kentucky (878), Cleveland State (887), Mercer (892), Samford (905), Southern Miss, Fort Wayne (911), Belmont (914), Florida Gulf Coast (915) and Tennessee Tech (919).
WKU's Billy Tom Sargent captured the individual crown with a 69 on the day to finish at eight-under 208 to beat EKU's Will Sallee by two strokes.
The Golden Eagles finish the fall portion of its schedule at the David Miller Collegiate, which will be played at the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.
