Lady Eagles Travel to Old Dominion

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team travels to Conference USA foe Old Dominion Saturday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. CT at Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off an 80-59 loss at Charlotte on Thursday, Jan. 7. Caitlin Jenkins led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, registering her sixth double-double of the season, while Brittanny Dinkins and Brittny Norris added eight points each.
Thus far on the season, Southern Miss has three players averaging points in the double digits. Jenkins cur-rently leads the Black and Gold with 12.8 points per game, while Jerontay Clemons adds 11.9 points. Dinkins averages 11.8 per game.
Jenkins leads the team with 9.8 rebounds per game, while Jayla King contributes another 5.4. Keri Jewett-Giles is handing out 3.6 assists per game and has a team-best 35 steals so far this season.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 62.2 points and 38.5 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 64.9 percent from the line. Southern Miss is giving up 58.7 points on 39.3 percent shooting, and holds a +4.3 turnover margin against opponents.
A Look at Old Dominion
The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 69-51 loss to Louisiana Tech on Jan. 7. Jennie Simms led the team with a game-high 24 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Head coach Karen Barefoot is in her fifth year with the Lady Monarchs, who went 21-13 (11-7) last season and advanced to the second round of the postseason WNIT. Old Dominion welcomes six newcomers and returns eight letterwinners from last season's team. The Lady Monarchs were picked to finish second in the C-USA this year by the league's coaches.
Simms currently leads the team with 18.9 points per game, while Destinee Young adds 10.5 points. Young also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.7 per game.
Old Dominion is averaging 58.4 points and 36.2 rebounds per game while shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 60.2 percent from the line. The Lady Monarchs are giving up an average 64.5 points to opponents.
Series Notes
This is the fourth meeting between the two teams. ODU won the initial meeting in Hattiesburg in 2014 while Southern Miss defeated ODU in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament that same year. The Lady Eagles won last year's meeting in Hattiesburg.

The Lady Eagles return home to host a pair of C-USA games with Florida Atlantic on Jan. 14 in a nationally televised game at 8 p.m., and FIU on Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.
