HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss baseball team returns to action with a pair of midweek games, traveling to New Orleans on Tuesday to face Tulane in a 6:30 p.m., game before returning home to entertain Alcorn State, Wednesday, at 6 p.m.
It will be $1 Night at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field for the Alcorn State game as fans can purchase $1 general admission seating as well as $1 hot dogs during the contest.
The Golden Eagles (20-12-1 overall, 8-6 in C-USA) continue to play well, having taken two of three games at WKU over the weekend and are 5-2 to start the month of April.
Freshman Taylor Braley finished the WKU series for Southern Miss with a four-hit performance and pushed his season's batting average to .398, which leads the team as well as Conference USA. Senior Matt Durst is next at .317, followed by senior Connor Barron at .311 and sophomore Dylan Burdeaux at .297.
In addition, the Golden Eagle pitching staff continues to lead C-USA in earned run average with a 2.58, while the team's defense is both second in fielding percentage (.974) and double plays turned (37).
The start of the five-game week for Southern Miss is a Tulane squad that has posted a 22-14 record this season and are 3-6 in The American, after dropping two of three games at Houston last weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated the Green Wave in the two schools' other meeting this season, 8-4, on March 11 in Hattiesburg.
The Tulane game ends a string of five consecutive games on the road for Southern Miss and 11 of 14 away from its home facility.
Following the Green Wave meeting, the Golden Eagles return home to face Alcorn State. Southern Miss leads the series 16-1 dating back to first meeting in 1985. The Braves head into the game on Wednesday with a 10-27 overall record to go along with a 4-14 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference after falling twice in a three-game set at Alabama A&M last weekend.
Following the midweek contests, the Golden Eagles return home this weekend to face C-USA co-leader Florida Atlantic. Game times are set for 6 p.m., Friday, 4 p.m., Saturday and at 11 a.m., on Sunday.
