Men's Tennis Tops Jackson State 6-1

JACKSON, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team posted five victories in singles in securing a 6-1 victory over Jackson State Wednesday evening.
Southern Miss improved to 15-7 on the season while Jackson State dropped to 2-18.
"The team did a good job staying focused and executing their games to win 6-1," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "It was good to get a match in this week. "
The Golden Eagles captured the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Chao-Yu Huang and Wen-Po Tseng blanked Fedrico Buscarino and Hernan Geria, 6-0 before Tarun Surat and Mikhail Esipov clinched the point with a 6-1 win against Camilo Patino and Federico Mendletta. Alex Doleac and Brad Marriott were leading Richie Agarwal and Styllanon Gkontsaris 5-1 before the match was called.
In the singles, Tseng topped Miguel Martin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 slot while Huang defeated Patino at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Esipov downed Agarwal 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot while Daniel Merker defeated Vishu Prasad 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Marriott wrapped up the Southern Miss scoring with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Mendletta.
Jackson State's Buscarino defeated Surat at No. 1 7-6, 6-4.
Southern Miss returns to action on April 9 at 3 p.m. against South Alabama at the USM Tennis Courts.
