Men's Tennis Team Downs UT-Pan American 5-2

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Southern Miss men's tennis team defeated UT-Pan American 5-2 at the Thomas Family Tennis Center on the campus of Lamar University Saturday. The Golden Eagles improved to 7-3.
"The team did a fantastic job pulling through in the doubles after being match points down to win the doubles point," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "We have a team of great competitors who work very hard to execute their games. Everyone is finding ways to be successful on the court. This was a good weekend to finish with a 2-0 team win."
Southern Miss took the doubles point after winning at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Alex Doleac and Brad Marriott lost to Juan Cruz Soria and Nikola Crvelin 6-1 at No. 2. Wen-Po Tseng and Chao-Yu Huang defeated Koby Jansen and Hector Ramirez at No. 1 by a 7-5 score. Daniel Merker and Mikhail Esipov defeated Ethan Ammon and Miguel Alvarez-Hevia 7-5 at No. 3. In singles play, Southern Miss won four of the six singles. Tseng won on court 1 over Ramirez 6-4, 6-3 while Huang defeated Janson at No. 3 by a score of 7-5, 7-6 (3). Doleac defeated Crvelin at No. 5 6-3, 6-2 and Brad Marriott topped Ammon at No. 6 7-6 (3), 6-2.
Tarun Surat lost to Cruz Soria at No. 2 by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 and Esipov dropped his match at No. 4 to Alvarez-Hevia 6-0, 6-3.
Southern Miss travels to the HEB Invitational Mar. 6-7 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
