Lady Eagle Hoops Gearing Up For Annual Pink Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Lady Eagle basketball team gears up for their annual pink game when Old Dominion comes to Reed Coliseum on Thursday in a 6 p.m. slate.
The Lady Eagle contest can be heard on WHXB-FM 96.5 or at www.SouthernMiss.com with Josh West, voice of the Lady Eagles, providing the play-by-play action with legendary coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (17-7, 10-3) are coming off a 67-65 win at Florida Atlantic last Saturday. Southern Miss outscored FAU 12-0 in the final 2:30 for the win. Tamara Jones and Jerontay Clemons led the way with 18 points apiece. Clemons also had a team-best seven rebounds and Alex Coyne dished out five assists. Southern Miss shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half.
Jones leads the team in scoring with 16.5 points while adding a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. She ranks seventh in the Conference USA in scoring and ninth in field goal percentage including 14th in three-point field goal percentage. Clemons is next at 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Kierra Jordan contributes 7.4 points and 5.2 rebounds. She is eighth in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 50.6 percent from the floor. Brooke Rhodes adds 7.8 points and is third the league in three-point field goal percentage and is fourth in 3-point field goals made in C-USA.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 68.0 points on 45.0 percent shooting from the field and 37.4 rebounds per game. Southern Miss ranks second in field percentage and three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Eagles rank third field goal percentage defense. The Lady Eagles have connected on 125-of-353 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lady Eagle program and her 24th season as a head coach.
A Look at Old Dominion
Old Dominion enters tonight's contest with a 14-9 record overall and 7-5 in Conference USA. The Lady Monarchs defeated UTEP last Saturday, 79-50. Jennie Simms scored a game-high 19 points while Tiffany Minor had 17 and Ashley Betz-White added 16 points. Ije Ajemba pulled down 13 rebounds and Simms had 12.
Simms is averaging 18.8 points and 7.2 rebounds while Minor and Betz-White are next at 7.6 and 7.0 points, respectively.
Old Dominion is averaging 61.2 points per game while allowing 60.4 points. The Lady Monarchs are connecting on 37.0 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from three, while allowing 37.7 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from beyond the arc. ODU is pulling down 41.9 rebounds per game and connecting on 64.2 percent from the free throw line.
Series Record: Southern Miss vs. Old Dominion
This is the third meeting between the two teams. ODU won the initial meeting in Hattiesburg last season while Southern Miss defeated ODU in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament last season.
