HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The 2015 season gets underway for the Southern Miss baseball team here Friday afternoon when the Golden Eagles entertain Murray State for the first of a three-game series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Game times are slated for 4 p.m., for the opener on Friday, at 2 p.m., Saturday, and at 1 p.m., for the series finale on Sunday. All three games can be hear on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles take their first step to getting back to the postseason, looking for their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2011. Southern Miss has won at least 30 games in each of its last 13 seasons after finishing at 35-25 a year ago and a third-place showing in Conference USA with a 19-11 mark.
Southern Miss opens the season at home for the 17th time in the last 18 seasons when they take on the Thoroughbreds. The two teams have met six times on the diamond with the Golden Eagles holding a 4-2 advantage in the series. Murray State took two of three contest in a three-game set at Pete Taylor Park during the 2012 season.
Before that, the Golden Eagles captured an 18-0 decision over MSU in the 2003 NCAA Hattiesburg Regional and captured a two-game set during the 1996 campaign. All six previous games in the series have been played in Hattiesburg.
Following the weekend series, the Golden Eagles end their four-game, season-opening homestand Wednesday when they take on New Orleans. Game time is set for 6 p.m., in that contest.
