
Lady Eagle Basketball to Host South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team will look to extend its three-game win streak as they take on South Alabama Sunday at Reed Green Coliseum at part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. CT for the Lady Eagles while the Golden Eagles is set for a 4:30 p.m. tip.
The game will be "Basketball Campers Reunion Day". Campers from the women's basketball camp earlier this season can redeem voucher at the ticket office for a free ticket. In addition, the first 500 students in attendance will get a free hamburger.
Southern Miss Preview
The Golden Eagles (4-2) are coming off a 69-57 road victory over Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Brittanny Dinkins and Jayla King led the way with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Caitlin Jenkins added nine points to go with 10 rebounds. The Lady Eagles finished the game shooting 44.8 percent from the field, while their hard-nosed defensive play held the home team to just 25 percent shooting.
Through the first six games, King leads the Black and Gold with 11.7 points per game, while Jenkins adds 10.8 points and Jerontay Clemons 10.0. Jenkins leads the team in rebounds with 8.4 per game, with King pulling down an average 5.7 rebounds. Keri Jewett-Giles is handing out 2.9 assists per game and has a team-best 18 steals so far this season.
Southern Miss is averaging 58.5 points and 37.8 rebounds per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 64.8 from the line. The Golden Eagles are giving up 59.0 points on 41 percent shooting from the field, and hold a +4.3 turnover margin against opponents.
A Look at South Alabama
South Alabama (2-3) is coming off a 47-43 road win at against Alabama State on Dec. 3. Genesis Perrymond led the team with 12 points, while LaNeetra Guillory adding another eight. Chyna Ellis pulled down eight rebounds for the Jaguars.
In his third season at South Alabama, Head Coach Terry Fowler welcomes seven newcomers and returns seven letterwinners from last season's team that went 5-24 (2-18 Sun Belt).
Marquita Daniels currently leads the Jaguars with 10.3 points per game, while Perrymond adds 9.6 points. Ellis averages a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game.
South Alabama is averaging 50.4 points and 38.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 34.1 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from the line. The Jaguars are giving up 58.2 points to opponents.
Series Notes
This is the 29th meeting between the two teams in a series that begin in the 1975-76 season. Southern Miss leads the overall series 17-11, including a 64-53 win over the Jaguars last season in Mobile.
