Lady Eagle Basketball to Host Cross-Town Foe William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track as they take on William Carey Monday at Reed Green Coliseum. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. CT.
The game will be the Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Game. Season Ticket Holders will be able to receive two complimentary tickets to this game by either visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office during normal business hours or by visiting the Ticket Office trailer located at the North Entrance of the Coliseum on the day of the game.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (6-4) are coming off a 69-62 road loss against North Carolina on Sunday, Dec. 20. Jerontay Clemons and Brittanny Dinkins led the way with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Jayla King added 10 points while Caitlin Jenkins pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. The Lady Eagles finished the game shooting 40.3 percent from the field after starting the game shooting 60 percent.
Through the first 10 games, Clemons leads the Black and Gold with 14.0 points per game, while Dinkins adds 11.8 points and King 11.0. Jenkins leads the team in rebounds with 8.7 per game, with King pulling down an average 5.7 rebounds. Keri Jewett-Giles is handing out 3.3 assists per game and has a team-best 30 steals so far this season.
Southern Miss is averaging 60.6 points and 36.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.6 percent from the field and 66.2 from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.0 points on 38.6 percent shooting from the field, and hold a +3.8 turnover margin against opponents.
A Look at William Carey
William Carey (4-3) is coming off a 66-30 road loss at South Alabama in an exhibition game on Dec. 15. Alecha Gibbs and Nijea Dixon led the team with five points each while Cortney Epting and Shania Posey grabbed five rebounds apiece.
In his 26th season at William Carey, Head Coach Tracy English welcomes 11 newcomers and returns nine letterwinners from last season's team that went 10-15 (7-11 SSAC).
Alyson Johnson currently leads the Lady Crusaders with 14.3 points per game, while Dixon adds 8.8 points. Gibbs averages a team-best 5.4 rebounds per game.
William Carey is averaging 61.3 points and 36.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 37.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line. The Lady Crusaders are giving up 56.7 points to opponents.
Series Notes
This is the 13th meeting between the two teams in a series that begin in the 1977-78 season. Southern Miss leads the overall series 11-1, including a 98-45 win over the Lady Crusaders last season.
