Lady Eagle Basketball Travels to Tennessee Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team will travel to Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 1 for a non-conference matchup at 6:00 p.m.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (3-2) are coming off a 56-48 win over Samford in the championship game of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic. Caitlin Jenkins led the way with a double-double performance, scoring 11 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. Jayla King, who had a standout 27-point performance against Mississippi Valley in the semifinal, put up six points and seven rebounds in the championship and was named the tournament MVP.
Jerontay Clemons currently leads the team with 12.0 point per game, while Jenkins adds 11.3 and King 10.2. Jenkins leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game, with King adding 5.8 rebounds. Brittanny Dinkins is handing out 3 assists per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 56.4 points and 37.6 rebounds per game while shooting 34.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.4 points on 41.7 percent shooting. They hold a +4.2 turnover margin against opponents.
A Look at Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech (2-3) is coming off an 88-62 loss at Northern Kentucky on Nov. 27. Samaria Howard scored a team-best 16 points, while Hannah Goolsby added 12 points and Treyvonna Brooks 11. Asia Harper and Tia Nicholson grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
In his fifth season, Head Coach Jim Davis welcomes six newcomers and returns seven letterwinners from last season's squad that went 6-23 (3-13 OVC).
Howard averages 19 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Goolsby adds another 13 points. Alliyah Smith leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 7.2 per game.
Tennessee Tech is averaging 63.4 points and 39.8 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from the field and 69.3 percent from the line.
Series Notes
This is the sixth meeting between the two teams, with Southern Miss leading the series 3-2. Last season Southern Miss defeated Tech 80-58 at home on Dec. 3.
