
Getting to Know ... Jerontay Clemons

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown continues for the season-opener dwindles to just three days, a Lady Eagle basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Lady Eagles open the season at home, hosting Alabama State in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. for Education Day.
The lone senior Jerontay Clemons is the featured player for the countdown.
Clemons, a native of Coldwater, Miss., enters her senior campaign expecting to be a leader of the Lady Eagle team, according to head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. She is the most experienced player on the squad. She is one of the top defenders in Conference USA as she was always assigned to the opponent's most prolific offensive threat. For efforts, she was aptly named to the C-USA All-Defensive team. She also earned C-USA second team all-conference accolades. She was named to the Preseason All-Conference team for the 2015-16 season.
With each passing season, Clemons has continued to improve throughout her career. Last season, she averaged 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Standing at 5-8, Clemons has been one of the top rebounding guard in the league since day one of her career. She scored a career-high 22 points against Old Dominion last season. She has tallied 59 career game with double figure scoring and 11 with double figure rebounds. Clemons also joined the 1,000-point club last season when she scored her first basket against UTEP on Mar. 1.
Clemons was a standout athlete at Coldwater High School she helped her earned five letters. She played for Coach Wert Spiva and averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals per game. She earned all-state accolades from 2009 to 2012 as well as earning all-division and all-region honors from 2008 to 2012. She was named the division MVP for three seasons. She was a two-time Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection. She scored a career-high 54 points in a game. She is the daughter of Kenyatta Williams.
