Men's Golf Completes Play at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior Hayes Weathersby (Poplarville, Miss.) shot a third-round score of 74 to lead the Golden Eagles in the final day of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, Tuesday, which was held in Pearland, Texas.
The event, which took place at the par 72, 7,272-yard course at Golfcrest Country Club, saw Weathersby end his tournament with an 11-over 227 to finish tied for 45th in the event. Junior Ryan Argotsinger (Kansas City, Mo.) secured the highest individual finish of any Southern Miss player after firing an 81 over his final 18 holes to end with a 223, which placed him in a 26th-place tie.
Sophomore Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta) added a 74 for the Golden Eagles, while freshman Willie Hammond (Southlake, Texas) registered a 79 in their respective final rounds, giving both players a 241 stroke total and a tie for 74th. Freshman Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) added an 80 on his final circuit to end with a 245 and a 79th-place showing.
As for the team, the Golden Eagles shot a total score of 313 over the final 18 holes to end the event with a 928.
One of the three co-hosts for the event, Houston, won the team championship with a score of 870 to finish two strokes ahead of North Texas. The other co-hosts for the tournament included Rice and Sam Houston State.
Houston's Matt Dunn defeated McNeese State's Robert MacIntyre on the second hole of the playoff to earn medalist honors. Both players made par on No. 18 before Dunn then converted a par on No. 16, while MacIntyre collected a bogey.
Following Houston on the team scoring was North Texas (872), Kansas (878), Texas State (881), Lamar (883), UTSA (886), Rice (892), McNeese (899), Sam Houston State (901), Houston Baptist (910), Tulsa (911), Abilene Christian (913), Denver (920) and Southern Miss.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to College Grove, Tenn., to play in the The Grove Intercollegiate Oct. 25-27.
