Lady Eagle Basketball Travels to Marshall

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Lady Eagle basketball team hits the road for a Conference USA match-up against Marshall on Jan. 29 in a 5 p.m. tip.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (12-6, 5-2) are coming off a 67-55 win over North Texas on Saturday evening. Jerontay Clemons and Megan Brown led the way with 17 points each. Clemons recorded her first double-double of the season when she pulled down 11 rebounds. Ashley Folsom chipped in eight points.
Tamara Jones leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She ranks in a tie for eighth in the Conference USA in scoring and fourth in field goal percentage including seventh in three-point field goal percentage. Clemons is next at 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Kierra Jordan contributes 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds. She is seventh in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 51.2 percent from the floor. Rhodes adds 7.9 points and is third in three-point field goal percentage and fifth in 3-point field goals made in C-USA.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 69.2 points on 45.2 percent shooting from the field and 37.1 rebounds per game. Southern Miss ranks second in field percentage while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Eagles rank second field goal percentage defense. The Lady Eagles have connected on 101-of-266 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lady Eagle program and her 24th season as a head coach.
A Look at Marshall
Marshall enters tonight's game with a 12-6 record overall and is 4-3 in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd won at UTEP Saturday afternoon, 76-71, as Norrisha Victrum and Leah Scott scored 23 and 21 points, respectively. Scott had a team-best seven rebounds.
Scott is averaging 14.4 points per game while three other Herd players are averaging in double figures with Victrum at 11.3, Chukwuka Ezeigbo at 10.4 and AJ Johnson at 10.3. Ezeigbo also leads the team in rebounding at 10.3 rebounds per game.
Marshall is averaging 68.0 points per game while allowing 58.6 points. The Herd is connecting on 42.1 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from three, while allowing 35.8 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from beyond the arc. Marshall is pulling down 38.6 rebounds per game.
Series Record: Southern Miss vs. Marshall
This is the 20th meeting between the two teams dating back to the 2005-06 season. Southern Miss leads the overall series, 13-6 as the Lady Eagles have won four of the last five meetings. The Lady Eagles won the meeting last season in Hattiesburg.
