
Men's Tennis Tumbles at UAB 5-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team fell to UAB 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Conference USA action.
Southern Miss drops to 6-7 on the year while UAB improved to 5-5.
"We played a good team and with Vasco Valverde being sick, we had to adjust two of our doubles teams," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "The team put in a good effort and continues to learn from different match experiences."
The Blazers started the match by winning the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the point. Alex Doleac and Chao-Yu Huang dropped their match to Chris Hellier and Mitchell Martell 8-2 at No. 2. Brad Marriott and Grigory Trotsenko lost to Luiz Felipe Pinto and Rafael Rondino 8-3 on court 3. Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar held a 6-5 advantage at No. 1 over Lucas Dirube and Donovan McSeveney before the match was called.
UAB added points at the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6. Huang topped Lucas Dirube at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 and Escobar downed Stephan Vancurik 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5.
Southern Miss returns to action no Mar. 7 at 2 p .m. when the Golden Eagles host Southern Illinois.
