Women's Basketball Travels to FGCU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team plays will host Tennessee Tech in non-conference action on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT).

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off an 80-58 win over Tennessee Tech in a midweek contest. Tamara Jones, Kierra Jordan and Brooke Rhodes all scored 14 points. Jordan added 11 rebounds in recording her first double-double this season. Alex Coyne dished out eight assists. Eleven of the 12 players who played scored two or more points.
Jones currently leads the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game while Clemons adds 11.0 points and Jordan 10.9. Jones and Clemons lead the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Coyne is handing out 3.9 assists per game.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 74.0 points on 49.4 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 rebounds per game. Southern Miss is connecting on 64.0 percent from the line. Southern Miss is giving up 54.7 points on 34.8 percent shooting from the field while holding a +6.9 turnover margin against its opponents.
A Look at Florida Gulf Coast University
Florida Gulf Coast (5-2) is coming off a 90-83 double overtime loss Ohio State in the Paradise Jam Tournament. Six players scored in double figures led by Whitney Knight with 17 followed by Kaneisha Atwater and Jenna Cobb with 14 points each, Anthi Chatzigiakoumi with 11 and DyTiesha Dunson and Jaime Gluesing with 10 points apiece. Cobb also pulled down a team-best 15 rebounds.
Head Coach Karl Smesko is in his 13th season and returns 11 letterwinners including four starters from last season's team that finished 26-8.
Knight is tops on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while Stephanie Haas is next on the squad with 13.7 points followed by Atwater at 11.4 and Cobb at 10.9.
The Eagles are averaging 83.0 points on 47.2 percent shooting from the field and 34.7 rebounds per game. FGCU has connected on 81-of-199 from behind the arc. The Eagles are shooting 68.9 percent.

Following the FGCU game, Southern Miss returns home to host in-state rival Mississippi State on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m., in a televised game on the American Sports Network (ASN).
