
Lady Eagle Basketball to Host Tennessee Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team plays will host Tennessee Tech in non-conference action on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 72-48 win over North Carolina A&T in the championship game of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic. Tamara Jones poured in a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds on her way to earning the MVP in the tournament. Jerontay Clemons scored 10 points and hauled in eight rebounds.
Jordan currently leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game while Clemons adds 11.8 points and Kierra Jordan 10.3. Jones also leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game with Clemons adding 6.4 rebounds. Alex Coyne and Brittanny Dinkins are handing out 3.2 assists per game.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 73.0 points and 36.2 rebounds per game while shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 62.0 percent from the line. Southern Miss is giving up 54.2 points on 35.0 percent shooting while holding a +6.2 turnover margin against its opponents.
A Look at Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech (1-4) is coming off a 74-51 loss to No. 19/25 Georgia on Nov. 29. Samaria Howard scored a team-best 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Mariah Dean added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Head Coach Jim Davis is in his fourth season and returns seven letterwinners from last season's team that finished 12-18.
Howard is tops on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while Hannah Goolsby is next on the squad with 9.2 points.
The Golden Eagles are averaging 62.8 points on 41.3 percent shooting from the field and 31.0 rebounds per game. TTU have connected on 56-of-92 from the line, shooting 60.9 percent.
Series Notes: This is the fifth meeting between Southern Miss and Tennessee Tech. The series record is tied at 2-2. The series began in 1978-79 with the Lady Eagles winning in Cookeville. Southern Miss won the next meeting between the teams, but Tennessee Tech has won the last two including a first round NCAA Tournament meeting in 1987.
