Men's Hoops Falls at Jackson State, 66-46

JACKSON, Miss. - Southern Miss shot just 37.1% from the field, as the Golden Eagles fell at Jackson State, 66-46, Thursday night.
The game was the first in the 12-game series played away from Hattiesburg. It also snapped the Golden Eagles' 21-game winning streak against the SWAC.
Matt Bingaya recorded his second career double-double, scoring 20 points and tying his career-high with 10 rebounds. Chip Armelin added 10 points.
Jackson State scored the first three points of the game. Matt Bingaya made a layup, but then the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to lead 10-2 just 3:27 into the game. Davon Hayes scored the next four points, but the Golden Eagles were held without a field goal over the next eight minutes, as JSU went on a 16-2 run to take a 26-8 lead with 7:33 to play.
Rasham Suarez hit a three-pointer to give the Golden Eagles their first field goal in over eight minutes, but baskets from Dantaveon Robinson and Raeford Worsham push the lead to 30-11. Southern Miss made three-of-four from the charity stripe, but Jackson the half on an 8-2 run to take a 38-16 lead at the half.
Southern Miss got the ball to start the second half, but Armelin immediately turned it over, and JSU scored to increase its lead to 24. But the Golden Eagles scored six straight points to make it an 18-point game, just over two minutes into the second half.
However, a layup from Worsham, followed by a three-point play from Robinson pushed the lead back to 23.
The Golden Eagles would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Kaven Bernard led all players with 21 points and six rebounds. Worsham added 18 points and six boards.
The Black and Gold was just 13-of-35 (37.1%) from the field and 3-of-11 (27.3%) from three. Jackson State connected on 45.8% (22-of-48) from the floor and 30.0% (6-of-20) from three. Southern Miss was outrebounded, 33-to-25, and committed 22 turnovers.
Southern Miss stays on the road when it travels to Atlanta, Ga., this Sunday, December 21, to face Georgia State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
