Women's Basketball Travels to McNeese

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team hits the road for the second this season when the Lady Eagles travel to McNeese State for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 69-51 win over Mississippi Valley. Southern Miss placed three players in double figures led by Lashyra Cotton with 14 points off the bench followed by Ashley Folsom with 12 and Jerontay Clemons added 10. Clemons also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. The Lady Eagles scored 23 points off 35 MVSU turnovers and got 34 points off the bench. After shooting 51.6 percent in the first half, Southern Miss cooled down considerably in the second to shoot only 31/6 percent.
Four players are averaging in double figures led by Cotton at 11.3 with Brooke Rhodes and Kierra Jordan next at 11.0 points each. Tamara Jones is averaging 10.0 points. Clemons leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 rebounds per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 77.0 points on shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 67.9 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are averaging 35.0 rebounds.
A Look at McNeese State
McNeese State (2-1) is coming off a 79-70 win over LSU-A. Allison Baggett led the Cowgirls with 25 points while Jayln Johnson and Ann Nwosah added 11 points apiece. Nwosah also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Baggett is tops on the team in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game while Johnson adds 9.7 points per contest. Frederica Haywood leads the squad in rebounding at 7.7 per game.
McNeese State is averaging 72.3 points on 35.8 percent shooting from the field and 48.0 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls have connected on 58-of-89 from the line, shooting 65.2 percent.
Coach Brooks Donald William is in her seventh season at McNeese State.
The Series: Southern Miss vs. McNeese State Southern Miss and McNeese State have played 10 times. The series began in 1978-80 with McNeese winning both games. Southern Miss won its first game against McNeese in 1989. The Lady Eagles have won the last four contests.
Next Up
Southern Miss returns home to host the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 28-29. Teams included are Austin Peay, North Carolina A&T and Oral Roberts. The Lady Eagles open with Austin Peay at 3 p.m. on Nov. 28 followed by Oral Roberts and North Carolina A&T at 5:30. The consolation game is set for 11 a.m., with the championship game slated for 7 p.m. on Nov. 29.
