AUBURN, Ala. - The Golden Eagles had a tough go of it Sunday afternoon in their visit to Auburn. Southern Miss suffered its second loss of the season falling 6-0 to the Tigers.
This was the final non-conference match for the Golden Eagles.
"Obviously, we are disappointed with the loss," head coach Mohammed El-Zare said, "but we have to put this one behind us. Our focus right now has to be on the start of conference play on Friday. This was a good match to prepare us for that."
Auburn (4-4-1) scored two goals in the first half and four in the second on 19 shots, 10 on goal.
Southern Miss (6-2-2) was held to three shots on the day, two of which were on goal.
Golden Eagles keeper Brittany Taylor (3-2-2) made four saves in the match while Auburn's Alicen Wright (1-0-0) made two.
The Tigers got six goals from six different players: Chelsea Gandy-Cromer, Logan Beal, Tori Ball, Haley Gerken, Casie Ramsier and Taylor Wagnon.
Southern Miss returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. with a Conference USA-schedule-opening match at North Texas in Denton.
