Estep Ties for Fifth at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

Mobile, Ala. - Zach Estep shot a one-over par 217 to tie for fifth-place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
The junior shot a tournament best 68 in the second round, which was also his best round of the season, and followed that with a 75. The 68 was his fourth round of par or better this year and the eighteenth of his career. The fifth-place finish was the first top five finish of the season and the second of his career.
As a team, Southern Miss took eighth-place, shooting a 289 in the second round before finishing with a 295 to finish with a 25-over par 889.
Sophomore Casey Fernandez and freshman Michael Perez tied for 39th-place at nine-over par 225. Fernandez carded a second round 71 before shooting a 75. The 71 was his sixth round of par or better this year and the 12th of his career. Perez shot rounds of 77 and 74. His 36 and 54-hole scores of 151 and 225 are both season bests.
Junior Kevin Brady tied for 50th-place at 12-over par after shooting rounds of 73 and 77. Junior Jared Smith opened the day with an 81, but came back to fire a 71, which was his first-ever round of par or better.
Southern Miss returns to the links in two weeks, when it travels to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics on Mar. 4-5.
