HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team will play its fourth game in eight days when the Lady Eagles host New Orleans on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to celebrate the Holidays in Reed Green. Santa will be there to take pictures and pass out candy to everyone.
The Lady Eagle contest can be heard on WHXB-FM 96.5 or at www.SouthernMiss.com with Josh West, voice of the Lady Eagles, providing the play-by-play action and legendary coach Kay James as color analyst.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (8-2) are coming off a 76-51 win over Grambling State. Tamara Jones led the way with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds. Voche' Martin netted 13 points. Jamierra Faulkner handed out 10 assists.
Jones currently leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Faulkner is next at 13.6 points followed by Brittanny Dinkins at 10.6 points. Faulkner is dishing out 9.2 assists per game to go with 2.8 steals.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 78.0 points and 39.9 rebounds per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line.
Scouting The Privateers
UNO (0-9) comes into the game following a 124-41 loss against No. 15 North Carolina. Octavia Wilson scored a career-high 21 points.
UNO returns five letterwinners from last season team. Jewel Angelo leads the team in scoring with at 7.9 points per game followed by Wilson at 6.7 and Danielle Davis at 6.5 points per game. Mathilde Fogelstrom leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 boards per game. As a team, UNO is averaging 45.1 points and 33.3 rebounds per game while shooting 30.5 percent from the field and 61.3 percent from the line.
Coach Keeshawn Davenport is in her third season at UNO.
Series Record: Southern Miss vs. UNO
This is the 34th meeting between the two schools dating back to the 1975-75 season. Southern Miss leads the overall series 25-8.

Following the UNO game, the Lady Eagles will take a few days off for the Christmas Holiday before returning to action on Dec. 29 against Nicholls State.
