Women's Basketball Officially Opens 2013-14 Preseason Practice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team officially opened in preparation for the 2013-14 season with a 7:30 a.m. practice in Reed Green Coliseum.
According the Coach Joye Lee-McNelis, emphasis of the first practice was placed on communication, effort and positive attitudes. The Lady Eagles return just four letterwinners from last year's team that finished 15-16 overall. Southern Miss added nine newcomers in the form of one senior college transfer, three junior college transfers and five freshmen.
"We are a work in progress," McNelis said. "It was definitely a "shock" for the newcomers to handle the pace of practice. Intensity, physical play and sprinting from drill to drill were a different experience. We will continue to make progress."
Practices for the Lady Eagles are scheduled at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday as the team continues preparation for the 2013-14 season. The Lady Eagles tip-off the season against West Alabama on Nov. 8 at 11 a.m.
