HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Junior Kevin Brady shot a final round 70 to finish three-under par and tied for fourth-place at the 10th annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate, played at Hattiesburg Country Club.
It is his first career top five finish and the round was his second under par of the tournament and the 16th round of par or better for his career. His 54-hole score of 210 also tied a career-best.
The Golden Eagles finished with a final round 288 to take seventh-place at eight-over par.
"We had a great tournament," said Southern Miss head coach Jerry Weeks. "We have a great champion in Ole Miss. They played well, and it got pretty tight, but it's always exciting, especially early in the year. It gives us an opportunity to get battle tested."
Sophomore Casey Fernandez shot a final round 70, tying his career-best round for the second straight day to tie for 11th-place, which also tied his career-best finish and is his third career top 20 finish. His 54-hole score of 212 is also a career-low. His one-under finish is his first career finish under par.
Junior Zach Estep posted a 75 to finish in a 24th-place tie at three-over par. Sophomore Drew Kirby finished nine-over par, tied for 51st-place. He tied his career-low round of 73, and set a new career 54-hole best of 222.
Junior Jared Smith shot a 73 to finish 12-over par, tied for 64th-place. Junior Trent Hillis tied for 72nd-place at 14-over par, carding a 75. Freshmen Tyler Peggs (+22) and Michael Perez (+23) tied for 81st and 84th-place, respectively.
Ole Miss won the tournament at seven-under par with a 54-hole score of 845, one shot ahead of Mississippi State.
Louisiana Tech's Victor Lange tool home medalist honors at eight-under par. South Alabama's Michael Garretson finished seven-under par and Blake Morris of Ole Miss was six-under.
Also, with the tournament finishing on September 11th, the flag on the 18th pin was replaced by an American flag and military members were stationed on the green to hold the pin for each group as they finished the hole to prevent the flag from hitting the ground.
South Alabama's head coach Ben Hannan had this to say: "On September 11th, to honor our men and women of the armed forces, it was pretty neat what Southern Miss did to have the armed forces out here tending the flag. With the American flag, it was a special feeling. It was a great look for these young men competing today to remember what it is really all about."
Southern Miss returns to the links in two weeks when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, Sept. 24-25.
