Michael Sterling Named to C-USA All-Academic Baseball Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss redshirt freshman Michael Sterling has earned one of 12 spots on the 2012 Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team Monday in a release by the league office.
Sterling, an infielder/outfielder from Meridian, Miss., holds a 3.48 grade point average in construction engineering at Southern Miss. During his time at Southern Miss, Sterling has been given the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal, as well as earning the C-USA Commissioner's List and Dean's List accolades twice along with being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll once.
In addition, Sterling leads the team in on base percentage, thanks to being hit a school-record 27 times to go along with 20 walks. He is hitting .259 on the season in 48 games to go along with four doubles, a home run and 13 runs batted in. He also leads the team in stolen bases with 10.
In 2012, Sterling has collected eight multi-hit contests and three multi-RBI games.
Joining Sterling on the All-Academic are Drew Reynolds of East Carolina, Jared Ray of Houston, Ethan Gross, Dan Langfield and Sam Moll of Memphis, Jeremy Rathjen and Matthew Reckling of Rice, Brandon Boudreaux and Jeremy Schaffer of Tulane and Keith DePew and Ryan Nance of UAB.
