Southern Miss in Eighth-Place at Conference USA Championships

Texarkana, Ark. - The Southern Miss men's golf team is in eighth-place after the first round of the Conference USA Championship, played at the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
The Golden Eagles shot an opening round eight-over par 296.
Senior Nick Brown is tied for 10th-place after opening with an even par 72. It is his seventh round of par or better this year and the 18th of his career.
Freshman Casey Fernandez opened with a 77 before shooting a second round 74 for a score of seven-over par 151 to sit in a 21st-place tie.
Sophomore Zach Estep is two-over par in a 26th-place tie after shooting a first round 74.
Senior Derek Plucienski and sophomore Kevin Brady are tied for 32nd-place at three-over par after opening with a 75.
Freshman Casey Fernandez shot a five-over par 77 to tie for 43rd-place.
Memphis leads the tournament at six-under par with an opening score of 282. SMU is in second-place at four-under par and Marshall is in third at two-under par.
Memphis' Jack Belote and Max Buckley of SMU lead the individual tournament at four-under par. Memphis' Jonathan Fly and Houston's Curtis Reed are tied for third at three-under par.
The tournament continues tomorrow with the second round. Southern Miss will tee off at 8:50 from hole #10.
