Men's Tennis Falls to South Alabama, 6-1

MOBILE, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team had a three-match winning streak snapped with a 6-1 loss at South Alabama on Sunday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.Southern Miss falls to 5-3 on the year while South Alabama improves to 5-2.
The Jaguars took the early 1-0 lead after winning two of the three the doubles. The Golden Eagles did put up a fight at each match. Romain Bocaert and Alex Bernard downed Matt Frost and Inaki Belloso, 8-5 at No. 1 before Christian Kuehne and Hanno Bartsch defeated Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar at No. 2 by a score of 8-6. It took a tie-breaker at the No. 3 before the Golden Eagles posted the win. Andrew Goodwin and Michael Elortegui outlasted Blake Gregor and Daniel Leitner, 9-8 (7-5).
South Alabama won five of the six singles against the Golden Eagles. Goodwin recorded the lone win for Southern Miss at No. 6 after playing a marathon match against Gregor. Goodwin earned the win after playing two tie-breakers in each set for the win, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5).
Frost lost to Bocaert on court one, 6-2, 6-2. Alvarado dropped his match at No. 2 to Bernard, 6-4, 6-2. Escobar fell to Leitner at No.3, 6-2, 7-5 before Belloso lost to Cody Hall, 6-1, 7-5. Jovan Zeljkovic lost to Dauw Kruger at No. 5, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.
Southern Miss now heads to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on the Florida A&M Rattlers on Monday at 12 p.m. central.
