Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 1-1 week after posting a 79-64 loss to Montana and a 63-62 win against Idaho in the Lady Griz Holiday Classic, Dec. 29-30. Guard Jamierra Faulkner earned all-tournament honors following her two-game performance as she averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game. Tanecka Carey also averaged double digits with 15.0 points and a team-leading 9.0 rebounds. Carey and Faulkner registered double-doubles against Montana as Carey scored a game-high 19 points to go with 11 rebounds and Faulkner tossed in 13 points and handed out 10 assists. Nitesha Pierce also scored in double digits with 12 points. Faulkner led four players with 23 points against Idaho. Carey and Niesha Pierce scored 11 points and Ance Celmina chipped in 10 points.
Carey to leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 19.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game with Faulkner is next at 16.1 points per contest. Celmina and Nitesha Pierce are next in rebounding at 5.8 rebounds per outing. As a team, USM is shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 64.0 percent from the line while averaging 65.5 points and 39.5 rebounds per outing.
Scouting Tulsa
Tulsa enters the contest with a two-game winning streak after posting a 72-53 win over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday to improve to 5-6 on the season. Four Tulsa players scored in double figures as Taleya Mayberry led the way with a team-high 17 points. Taylor Hooker was next with 16 points while Jessica McQuin came off the bench for 13 points and Chanice Scott chipped in 11. Mayberry also collected a team-best nine rebounds.
Mayberry leads the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game while Hooker is next at 11.2 per game average. Tiffani Couisnard is averaging a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game. As a team, Tulsa is averaging 62.5 points and 41.9 rebounds while shooting 36.4 percent from the field and 67.2 percent from the line. Head Coach Matilda Mossman is in her first season at Tulsa.
The Series
Southern Miss vs. Tulsa This is the ninth meeting between the two teams that began in 2006. Tulsa leads the series 7-1 including last year's meeting in Hattiesburg.

Following the Tulsa game, Southern Miss continues Conference USA play on Sunday when the Lady Eagles host Houston. Sunday is dollar day: $1 admission, $1 hot dogs, $1 drinks, $1 popcorn. It is also "Senior Citizen" day.
