Lady Eagles Fall to Memphis, 85-44

The Lady Eagles (6-12, 0-5) finished the game shooting 30.5 percent from the field that included only 20 percent in the first half. Memphis on the other hand shot 50.8 percent from the field including 68.8 percent from behind the arc. The Tigers also controlled the boards as the Memphis out-rebounded USM, 51-31.
Jamierra Faulkner and Tanecka Carey scored in double figures for Southern Miss with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Faulkner also dished out nine assists.
Memphis (13-4, 3-1) placed a quartet of players in double figures led by Danay Collier with a game-high 15 points. Jasmine Lee finished with 13 points followed by Brittany Carter with 11 and Ramses Lonlack with 10. Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir handed out 10 assists. Nicole Dickson led Memphis with a team-high 11 rebounds.
Southern Miss struggled from the opening tip as Memphis raced out to a 7-0 lead before the first media timeout. Faulkner finally put the Eagles on the board at the 15:07 mark, but Memphis came right back as Abdul-Qaadir connected on jumper and Dickson knocked down one of her three-pointers for the Tigers' first double-digit lead of the game. Faulkner connected on another jumper in the paint before Memphis reeled off 11 unanswered points for a 23-4 lead at the 10:29 mark.
Southern Miss got a pair threes from Carey and Faulkner to cut the lead to 15, but just as quickly, Memphis pushed the lead to 20 after Dickson's three and Krishunda Harvey bucket. Memphis closed out the half with a 12-6 run for a 42-16 halftime lead.
The Lady Eagles' point product improved in the second as the team shot 41.4 percent on 12-of-29 and scored 28 points. Memphis also improved on its second half statistics with 53.6 percent shooting from the field. The Tigers got 32 points in the paint while scoring 26 points off 26 USM turnovers.
Southern Miss will hit the road again as the Lady Eagles travel to Rice on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.
