- Southern Miss improves to 17-1 all-time in season openers played at home, including having won the last eight.

Offensive Notes
- Senior quarterback Austin Davis was 21-of-37 for 226 yards. It was his 23rd 200-yard passing game of his career to take sole possession of the school record in that category. Jeff Kelly had 22.
- Southern Miss was held to just seven points in the first half. It was its lowest first half point total since scoring six against UAB last year.
- Senior wide receiver Kelvin Bolden recorded his first career rushing touchdown on a 13-yard end around in the first quarter.
- Senior wide receiver William Spight's 25-yard reception in the first quarter was the longest of his career.
- Senior wide receiver Ryan Balentine caught six passes for a career-long 80 yards.
- Balentine's 39-yard reception in the fourth quarter was the longest of his career.
Defensive Notes
- The Golden Eagles held Louisiana Tech scoreless in the first half. It is the first time they held an opponent scoreless in the first half since Marshall last year.
- Junior Cordarro Law recorded two sacks in the game, giving him 20.5 on his career. He passed Terrell Paul (2000-03) for fourth-place on the school's all-time sack list.
- Senior defensive lineman Deddrick Jones recorded his second career sack in the second quarter.
Special Teams Notes
- Senior placekicker Danny Hrappman connected on a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter.
- Freshman placekicker Corey Acosta connected on field goals of 25 and 41 yards. They were the first of his career.
- Senior linebacker Tim Green blocked a punt in the first quarter. It was his second blocked punt of his career. He also blocked a punt against Kansas last year.
- It was also the first blocked punt since Reggie Hunt against Marshall in 2010.
- Southern Miss allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown for the second straight game.
