Hattiesburg, Miss. - Former Southern Miss pitcher Todd McInnis, who finished his collegiate career as the school's all-time win leader this past spring, continues to excel on the professional level by being named to the Class A New York-Penn League All-Star game later this month.
The game, set for LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. - the home of the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox affiliate) - will take place Aug. 16 and feature McInnis and five of his teammates with the Batavia Muckdogs of the St. Louis Cardinals organization. One of those teammates is former ECU hurler Seth Maness.
McInnis, who finished with 33 victories as well as the school record for innings pitched (395.1) and games started (68), was a 25th round pick, 770th overall, by the Cardinals.
The Brandon, Miss., native was the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year for the second time in 2011 on the strength of an 8-3 record and a 2.65 ERA with 87 strikeouts over 98 2/3 innings as the ace of the Golden Eagle staff.
This summer, McInnis has posted a 3-2 record with a 2.12 earned run average to go along with 32 strikeouts and just seven walks. His WHIP (statistical measurement that divides walks and hits into innings pitched) is .092, which is the best in the league, while his ERA ranks third.
