Koelling, a native of Luling, La., got picked in the 19th round with the 598th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins. He was the first player chosen by that organization since Brian Dozier was chosen in the eighth round in the 2009 draft. The Twins currently have won the American League Central Division crown in each of the last two seasons.
Koelling, the 2011 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy winner for the top collegiate player in the state of Mississippi, finished the year with a team-high .362 batting average to go along with 18 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 46 RBI. He was one of the toughest players in the country to strikeout as he fanned just nine times in 232 at bats during the campaign.
Cargill, of Hattiesburg, Miss., heard his name called in the 22nd round by the Florida Marlins as the 673rd person chosen. He finished his career as the Golden Eagle closer, appearing in 103 career games and leaving as the school's all-time saves leader with 30. In 2011, Cargill put together a solid season in which he finished 6-4 with a 0.93 earned run average. He fanned 31 over 48 1/3 innings in 25 appearances for the Golden Eagles.
In his career, he forced opponents to ground into double plays 41 times.
For McInnis, the school's all-time victory leader with 33 wins, learned his fate in the 25th round when he was the 770th selection by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Brandon, Miss., produce also finished his Golden Eagles career as the school's top person in innings pitched (395.1) and games started (68).
He was chosen the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year for the second time on the strength of an 8-3 record and a 2.65 ERA with 87 strikeouts over 98 2/3 innings as the ace of the Golden Eagle staff.
Southern Miss also had three signees chosen in the afternoon hours. Those included third baseman Bradley Roney of Wetumpka (HS) Ala., who was taken in the 18th round by the Baltimore Orioles, right-handed pitcher Taylor Nunez of Salmen High of Slidell, La., who was taken in the 19th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates and centerfielder Mason Robbins of George County High in Lucedale, who earned selection by the New York Mets in the 20th round.
Those individuals joined Golden Eagle signee Conner Barron and Southern Miss junior B.A. Vollmuth, who were each picked earlier in the day in the third round. Barron was the first selected by the Marlins, while the Athletics took Vollmuth three picks later.
The MLB First-Year Player Draft finished its first 30 rounds over the opening two days and will complete the process with the final 20 rounds beginning at 11 a.m., CT.
