Last Week's Series
Southern Miss 3, UAB 0
Southern Miss registered its third sweep in C-USA play and fifth of sixth league series this spring by winning all three games over UAB. The Golden Eagles got strong starting pitching performances from Todd McInnis and Geoffrey Thomas on Friday and Saturday, and then Kameron Brunty completed a Southern Miss comeback on Sunday with a three-run, game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth as the team rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the contest.
East Carolina 2, Marshall 1
The Pirates used late-inning heroics to beat Marshall twice at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston W. Va. ECU scored six runs in the ninth during the opening game and then Zach Wright homered in the 10th to lift the Pirates in the opener. After dropping the middle game, ECU again rallied late and came back from a 4-3 deficit in the ninth, using a go-ahead suicide squeeze in the final frame to lift the visitors to the series win.
Rice 3, Houston 0
Rice had little trouble with Houston over the weekend as they outscored Houston 25-10 over three games at Cougar Field. Rice won 8-2 and 12-6 the first two games, before completing the sweep with a 5-2 decision on Sunday. The Owls swept the season series with the Cougars by winning all five games between the two schools.
Tulane 2, Memphis 1
Tulane captured a close extra-inning affair and then outslugged Memphis in two of the three games down in New Orleans to strengthen their cause for the postseason. The Green Wave outlasted Memphis in 13 innings as Nick Schneeberger delivered a game-winning double in the final frame. After losing a one-run affair on Saturday, Tulane banged out 12 hits and walked eight times to win the finale 10-3.
Florida State 2, UCF 1
The Knights travelled to Tallahassee for their league open weekend series at Florida State. UCF scored seven runs in the seventh of the middle game, which was capped by a grand slam from Jonathan Griffin as the visitors held on for a 14-10 victory at Dick Howser Stadium.

New Championship Format
The 2011 Conference USA Championship will feature the top eight teams in regular-season league play. Those eight will be split into two four-team pools (or pods), with the winner of each pod playing in a single championship game. Teams will be assigned pods based on seed, which will be determined by the order of finish in regular-season conference play. Each team will be guaranteed to play three games. Teams in each pod will play two teams in its pod and one team outside its pod. The team with the best composite record in each pod will advance to the championship game. Two-way ties in a pod will be broken by head-to-head play. In case of a three-way tie, the highest seed will advance. The higher seed will be the home team in games on Days 1 and 3 and in the Championship Game; teams that were the visitors on Day 1 will be the home team on Day 2.
