HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Women's Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced the signing of Sedreka Plummer of Lafayette, La., to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2011-12 academic year.
"We are so excited to have Sedreka as a part of our program," McNelis said. "We are fortunate to have her join our Lady Eagle Family. She brings the size we need to continue to advance our program. Her experience at the National Junior College Tournament will benefit us."
Plummer, a 6-2 post player, averaged 10 points and six rebounds for Coach Gwyn Young at Co-Lin Community College. She helped lead the Co-Lin team finish with a 27-4 record while finishing sixth in the nation. Plummer averaged 13 points and 7.0 rebounds in the national tournament.
"Southern Miss was just the right place to continue my career in basketball and receive my degree," Plummer said. "The coaches and players really made me feel at home. I really enjoyed my visit and can't wait to get there."
Plummer was a four-year letterwinner at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, La., where she earned first team all-district and all-Parrish. She averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds while earning All-Acadiana honors in helping to lead her team to the championship game of the 5A state tournament. She also was nominated to the Louisiana All-Star game.
"Sedreka made the correct choice going to USM," Co-Lin Head Coach Gwyn Young said. "With the right work ethic and their system, she will make an immediate impact on their program. I wish her the very best."
Plummer joins fall signees Tanecka Carey (Jackson, Miss.), Ance Celmina (Saldus, Latvia), Hannah Fletcher (Ponchatoula, La.) and Wendy Miller (Palatka, Fla.) in the Lady Eagles 2011-12 signing class. Plummer chose Southern Miss over South Carolina, Arkansas-Little Rock and Cincinnati.
