HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The No. 20 Southern Miss baseball team finishes a five-game homestand Wednesday night when they entertain in-state rival Ole Miss in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
The Golden Eagles (18-5) are fresh off a weekend series win over Tulane in which they scored 43 runs in the set. Over the last four contests, the team is averaging 14.5 runs per contest in which they scored double-digit runs in each game during the stretch.
The offensive explosion has enabled the team batting average to reach .317 as seven Golden Eagles continue to hit over the .300 mark for the season.
Senior Adam Doleac, the reigning C-USA Hitter of the Week, leads the club in batting with a .378 mark after going 9-for-14 in the Tulane series with five RBI and a career-high five hits in the middle game of the set. He is closely followed by senior Tyler Koelling at .376, who homered twice against the Green Wave, including a big three-run shot in Saturday's game.
Junior B.A. Vollmuth, who leads the team in home runs (nine) and RBI (29), is next at .355, followed by senior Marc Bourgeois at .343, senior Justin Diliberto at .333, junior Kameron Brunty at .327 and sophomore Isaac Rodriguez at .321.
The Golden Eagles will send freshman Boomer Scarborough to the mound against the Rebels (18-7). Scarborough has posted a 1-0 record with a 1.12 earned run average. The first-year pitcher has not allowed an earned run over his first two starts and captured his first victory last Wednesday in a 15-3 decision over South Alabama. In that contest, he allowed three unearned runs on six hits and two walks with a season-best six strikeouts.
Ole Miss will counter with left-handed pitcher Matt Tracy, who brings a 3-1 mark in the game with a 3.38 ERA.
