HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up the 2010-11 regular season at Marshall. This is the season finale for both teams before heading to the C-USA Women's Basketball Tournament, Mar. 9-12, in El Paso, Texas.
Lady Eagle Fast Break Points
Southern Miss is 10-18 overall and 5-10 in the league after a 72-65 loss to UCF on Senior Day
The Lady Eagles placed three players in double-figure scoring with Tanesha Washington leading the way with 19 points followed by Jamierra Faulkner with 12 and Geneshia Dunbar chipped in 11.
Danielle Johnson saw playing time for the first time since Dec. 28 against Alabama, scoring four points
Southern Miss finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field against UCF
The Lady Eagles own a 109-134 record in regular season conference games in C-USA
Three players continue to average in double figure scoring, junior Rachel Vigers at 16.9 (who has missed the last eight games), followed by Tanesha Washington at 14.6 and Jamierra Faulkner at 12.3 points per game
Washington leads the team in rebounding with 9.2 rebounds per game
Jamierra Faulkner still leads the league and the team in assists while ranking among the national leaders
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 60.9 points and 39.1 rebounds per game while shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 65.1 percent from the line.
Scouting Marshall
Last Meeting: Feb. 6, 2010 - Marshall defeated the Lady Eagles, 57-48, in Hattiesburg.
The Thundering Herd is 8-20 on the season and 4-11 in Conference USA following a 48-44 loss at East Carolina. Alaya Mitchell and Lateidra Elliott netted 13 and 12 points, respectively. Veronica Ruiz grabbed 10 rebounds.
Coach Royce Chadwick is in his 10th season at Marshall. The Herd has the league's top scorer in Tynikki Crook, who is averaging 16.2 points per contest. Crook also is the team's top rebounder at 9.1 rebounds per game.
As a team, Marshall is averaging 52.9 points and 36.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 36.6 percent from the field and 60.6 percent from the line.
The Series
This is the 12th meeting between the two teams dating back to the 2005-06 season. Southern Miss leads the overall series against Marshall, 9-4. The two teams faced each other for the first time on Jan. 22, 2006 in Hattiesburg, with the Lady Eagles winning that matchup. Southern Miss has won six of last eight meetings after splitting the series last year. Marshall won for the first time in Hattiesburg this season.
