HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team completes its four-game road swing Wednesday night when they play a 6:05 p.m., single contest at Alabama.
The Golden Eagles (6-2) look to rebound from losing two of three at Troy over the weekend.
Righthander Jonathan Thompson is expected to get the start for the Golden Eagles as he has posted a 1-0 record with a 5.87 earned run average. Thompson won his last start, Feb. 22, as he allowed just three earned runs over 6 2/3 in a victory over Louisiana-Monroe at home. The Denham Springs, La., native fanned six and walked just one in the outing.
Senior Tyler Koelling leads the Golden Eagles this season with a .452 batting average as he is currently riding a 19-game hitting streak. Over that span, the Luling, La., native is hitting .425 over the streak, going 31-for-73 with a home run and 14 RBI.
Junior B.A. Vollmuth is next for Southern Miss with a .367 batting average, with team highs of two home runs and 10 RBI. The Biloxi, Miss., native has collected at least two hits in each of the last three games. Sophomore Isaac Rodriguez is next at .360 with a team-best four doubles and seven RBI, while senior Adam Doleac has batted .308 this season.
Alabama (4-3) enters the contest having lost three-straight tough decisions in the South Alabama Classic last weekend, dropping outcomes to Southeastern Louisiana, the host Jaguars and UCF.
The Crimson Tide has been led by Jared Reaves this season, who has posted a .481 batting average with a home run and 12 RBI.
This will be the 93rd meeting between the two schools and first since the 2008 campaign. UA leads the series 67-25, but the Golden Eagles have won three of the last four meetings.
The game can be heard on WXHB-FM, 96.5, with the pregame show starting at 5:30 p.m. The audio is also available through All-Access at SouthernMiss.com.
