Men's Tennis Team Falls at Stetson, 7-0

DELAND, Fla. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team played the first of six road matches, losing to Stetson Saturday with a 7-0 shutout at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters stared the match with a win at no. 3 doubles with Alexander Hackett and Chris Swanteson defeating Alex Doleac and Stewart Gammill, 8-2.
The Golden Eagles came right back to even the match with Julien Roussel and Jan Burmeister posting a 9-7 upset win over No. 40-ranked duo of Maksim Levanovich and Njal Stene in the one spot. However, Stetson would steal the point when Paulo Alvarado and Jovan Zeljkovic battled at no. 2 doubles, but Cesare Gallo and Didrik Sagbakken Berg won in a tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-3).
Stetson kept the momentum heading into the singles as the Hatters swept through the singles. Stetson took a 2-0 lead with a straight win at the six position with Hans Adrian Riseng defeating Gammill, 6-1, 6-0, and then, followed with Levanovich downing Roussel at the one spot, 6-0, 6-2.
Alvarado battled on court four before falling to Stene, 6-3, 7-5. Doleac lost a hard fought match at no. 5 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (1) loss to Hackett.
Burmeister dropped his first set in the no. 2 singles, 6-1, before taking the second set, 6-3. He would fall in a third set tie-breaker, 7-6 (4).
Southern Miss (1-9) is back in action Sunday with a match at Barry University.
