Fedora Named North Carolina Football Coach

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will hire Larry Fedora, who led Southern Miss to an 11-2 record and 2011 Conference USA championship, as the Tar Heels' next head football coach, pending final Board of Trustees approval at a 9 a.m. meeting Friday (Alumni Hall III, George Watts Hill Alumni Center).
UNC expects to hold a press conference at 1 p.m., ET on Friday.
Fedora, the 18th head coach at Southern Miss, accumulated a 33-19 record over four seasons which include a 2008 New Orleans Bowl victory, as well as a school-record victory total this season.
Fedora will coach his final game for the Golden Eagles in the 2011 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl against Nevada (7-5) on Dec. 24. Game time is set for 7 p.m., CT.
