Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 77-66 loss to Florida A&M on Nov. 29 in Hattiesburg. Tanecka Carey and Jamierra Faulkner led the way with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Sedreka Plummer added 10 points. Faulkner registered her first double-double after dishing out 10 assists. Southern Miss had its worst shooting game of the season as the USM connected on 39.7 (29-73) percent from the field.
Carey continues to lead the team in scoring at 20.8 points per game with Faulkner is close behind at 16.4 points per contest. Nitesha Pierce leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 rebounds per contest while Ance Celmina adds 6.5 boards. As a team, USM is shooting 44.8 percent from the field and only 56.1 percent from the line while averaging 68.0 points and 43.0 rebounds per outing.
UALR Review
UALR is 2-4 after 73-50 loss at Missouri State on Nov. 29. Marian Kursh led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Trojans. Janette Merriex came off the bench to score 13 points as well. The Trojans connected on 3-of-10 from beyond the arc and came up with 10 steals.
Kursh leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 15.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while Taylor Gault and Merriex are averaging in double figures with 12.8 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. As a team, the Trojans are averaging 55.2 points and 35.8 rebounds while shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 60.6 percent from the line. Head Coach Joe Foley is in his ninth season at UALR.
The Series: Southern Miss vs. UALR
UALR leads the series against Southern Miss, 5-3, in a series that began in 2003-04. The last meeting was a 48-47 Southern Miss victory on Dec. 4, 2010 in Hattiesburg.
