HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The No. 21 Southern Miss Golden Eagles got in their fourth practice for the 2011 bowl season on Thursday under a light midst inside Roberts Stadium.
Southern Miss will have Friday off to allow for their seniors to participate in graduation ceremonies before returning to the practice field one final time on Saturday before departing for Hawai'i.
The Golden Eagles will also be honored at halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game against Ole Miss, commemorating their 2011 Conference USA Championship season. Their 11 wins are a school record and the team will look to add another at the Sheraton Hawai'i bowl.
Standing in their way is Western Athletic Conference member Nevada, a team featuring the No. 5 ranked offense nationally (523 yards per game) and the No. 8 rushing offense (252 ypg). They are led by longtime coach Chris Ault, whose Pistol offensive scheme has allowed quarterbacks Cody Fajardo and Tyler Lantrip to combine for 3,143 yards in the air and 878 yards on the ground. Fajardo's 11 rushing touchdowns also lead the team.
The bowl trip will be the 10th consecutive for the Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on December 24th and will be aired on ESPN.
