Men's Golf Travels to UTA/Waterchase Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team goes on the road for the first time in the 2010-11 fall season when they travel to the UTA/Waterchase Intercollegiate, hosted by UT-Arlington.
The annual tournament takes place on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20 and 21 at the Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth. The par 72 course will play to a yardage of 7,304 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday. Tee times start at 8 a.m. each day.
The Golden Eagles are making their first appearance in the UTA/Waterchase Intercollegiate. Rice is the defending champion of the tournament as they shot a team score of six-under 858 last year. Dustin Garza of Wichita State was the individual champion last year as he finished with an eight-under total of 208.
Southern Miss will be joined in the tournament by Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Nicholls State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Santa Clara, Southern Illinois, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UT-Pan American, UT-San Antonio, Texas Weselyan and Wichita State. Host UT-Arlington will have two teams in the field.
Southern Miss is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Redshirt junior Derek Plucienski set numerous while finishing second, including lowest round (63) and lowest 54-hole score (201). His performance earned him the Conference USA Co-Men's Golfer of the Week award.
Senior Brent Hobbs and redshirt junior Nick Brown also shot career low rounds. Hobbs fired a first round 66, while Brown carded a 68 in the final round.
