Women's Basketball Gets Addition For 2010-11 Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head women's basketball coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced that Nia Bradford has signed a grant-in-aid scholarship with the University of Southern Mississippi and will be a member of the women's basketball team for 2010-11 academic year.
"We are excited to add Nia to our Lady Eagle program," McNelis said. "Nia brings adds more versatility and depth to our team. We recruited Nia in the early process, but she chose Stephen F. Austin, but with the coaching change she was released."
Bradford, a 5-11 wing guard, was named a First Team all-district 23-5A selection for the last two years. She helped lead Marshall High School to a 17-7 overall record and 10-3 in district play and the first round of playoffs. She averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.0 assists per game.
"I chose Southern Miss because they have wonderful support for women's basketball and the people," Bradford said. "Coach McNelis and Coach (Jordan) Dupuy did a great job during the recruiting process and they made me feel wanted and needed in this program. I previously signed with Stephen F. Austin, but unfortunate situations led me to be able to play for Coach McNelis. I am looking forward to making Hattiesburg my home for the next four years."
Bradford is the ninth newcomer and joins six early signees during the early signing period which includes Janairrika Bland (6-3, C, Edwards, Miss.), Jamierra Faulkner (5-6, PG, West Palm Beach, Fla.), Niesha Pierce (5-10, G, Gulfport, Miss.), Nitesha Pierce (5-10, F, Gulfport, Miss.) and Ewa Urbanowska (6-2, F, Warsaw, Poland), along with Tandrea High (5-6, G, Jonesboro, Ga.), Brittany Weathers (6-0, F, Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Rachel Vickers (5-9, F, Baton Rouge, La.) who signed during the late signing period .
