Lady Eagle Golf Signs Two for Fall Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's golf coach Julie Gallup has announced the signing of two recruits to national letters-of-intent for the 2010-11 academic year.
Kelsey Gibson of Thonotosassa, Fla., and Brandi Rodriguez from Orlando, Fla., will join the Lady Eagles next year.
Gibson is a two-time Central Florida Tour Player of the Year. She was named All-County six times, including five First Team honors. She won the 2009 District 2A Championship and finished second at the State Regionals. While at Tampa Preparatory School, she finished in the Top Three at the District 1A Championships three straight years, including winning the Championship in 2006. As a junior golfer, Gibson has won 18 tournaments, earned 25 top five finishes and 29 top tens.
Rodriguez is currently the third ranked junior golfer in Florida and 65th nationally for the Class of 2010. She is the two-time Orange County Golfer of the Week, earning the nod in both 2009-10 and 2008-09. She is a three-time member of the All-Central Florida Team, as well as the Lake Howell High School three-time Most Valuable Player. In 2009-10, at Winter Park High School, she was the individual Conference, District 3 and Regional Champion. She was also the Class 2A State Runner-Up after firing rounds of 72 and 70 to finish two-under. In 2008-09, she led Lake Howell to the Class 2A Conference, District and Regional Championships, as well as the Class 2A State Championships.
As a junior golfer, Rodriguez has won nine tournaments, earned 22 top five finishes and 36 top tens. She was selected as a member of the Florida Junior Cup Team by the Florida Junior Tour. Rodriguez won the 2009 Premier Tour - University of Florida Championship, firing consecutive rounds of 72 to win by three strokes. In 2008-09, she was named a Future Collegiate World Tour Third Team All-American, after carding a low tournament round score of 69 at The Legends at Orange Lake.
