HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Head Women's Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced the signing of Tandrea High of Jonesboro, Ga., to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2010-11 academic year.
"We are excited to have Tandrea part of the Lady Eagle family," McNelis said. "Tandrea brings speed and quickness to our backcourt. We believe Tandrea can be a difference maker and will help us reach our team goals. She comes from a tremendous program and a great family. Her foundation is solid and knows that with her values and goals, she will be a success as a Lady Eagle."
High, a 5-6 combo guard, averaged 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Lonnie Farmer at Mundy's Mill High School where she is the all-time leading scorer with 1,415 points in her career. She earned second team all-state honors and was named the 2009-2010 4 5A Region Player of the Year.
High was voted her team's captain for two seasons. She was an all-region selection as a junior while earning numerous all-tournament honors.
"I chose the University of Southern Mississippi because I felt comfortable with the coaching staff and team," High said. "I also believe that I will fit into their style of play on the court. During my visit, I saw the support that was shown by the community and the university. I would love to be a part of that experience."
High is the sixth signee this year and joins five early signees during the early signing period which includes Janairrika Bland (6-3, C, Edwards, Miss.), Jamierra Faulkner (5-6, PG, West Palm Beach, Fla.), Tiara George (6-1, F, Baton Rouge, La.), Niesha Pierce (5-10, G, Gulfport, Miss.), and Nitesha Pierce (5-10, F, Gulfport, Miss.).
