HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's basketball player Pauline Love has earned an invitation to training camp for the Connecticut Sun, one of 12 Women's National Basketball Association franchises. The Sun will open training camp on Monday, April 26.
Love recently completed her senior season the Lady Eagles, where she tallied averages of 18.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per contest during final campaign. Her rebound average ranked No. 2 nationally in Division I, while she was the No. 33 scorer in the nation. She also tallied 21 double-doubles during the year which allowed her to rank No.2 in that category.
During her time with the program, she was a three-time, first-team All-Conference USA performer as well as a three-time finalist for the Gillom Trophy, which recognizes the top women's collegiate basketball player in the state of Mississippi.
The Lady Eagles went to the postseason once during her tenure, in which they reached the round of 16 in the WNIT. She finished in the top 10 on the school charts in nine different categories, including second in rebounding average (11.1), third in rebounds (1,051), fourth in scoring average (16.6) and sixth in points scored (1,576).
Love is on track to graduate this May.
As for the Sun, Connecticut finished the 2009 season with a record of 16-18, under coach Mike Thibault, who lead the club to Eastern Division crowns during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He currently is in his eighth season as the head coach and has compiled a 143-95 record for the Sun.
The Sun open the 2010 regular season, May 15, against the Chicago Sky.
