Softball Records 5-0 Shutout Against Belmont

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle softball team scored runs in the four of the final five innings in recording a shutout victory over Belmont, 5-0, Sunday afternoon.
Courtney Ramos (5-1) allowed only four hits and struck out five to record her first shutout of the season. Devon Schmidt (1-4) was credited with the loss in giving up four runs on nine hits.
Britney Dinelt hit her second home run of the season and Jill Mathis was 3-for-3 at the plate. The Golden Eagles scored the first run of the game on a solo homer by Dinelt in the top of the third. Southern Miss loaded the bases but could push any more runs across.
Southern Miss added a run in the fourth as Brandi Alonzo singled down the right field line, stole second and advanced to third on when Leslie LeJune grounded out to first. Dinelt reached base on a throwing error and Alonzo scored.
The Golden Eagles put two more runs on the board when Mathis led off the inning with a double and was sacrifice to third by Logan James. Christina Roosmalen singled up the middle to score Mathis. Alonzo added her second hit of the game and singled home Casey Jo Matthews who pinch ran for Roosmalen and stole second.
Dinelt scored the final run after drawing a walk and advance to third on two wild pitches then scored when Mathis singled.
