HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagles pounded out 11 hits and scored 11 runs to top Central Arkansas, 11-3, in six innings.
"Ramos bounced back today from her last two outings where she it was not necessarily bad outings but not her best stuff," Coach Howard Dobson said. "She responded today. She made some quality pitches and got herself out of a couple of jams she got herself into. We started to see the ball a little bit more and what she was going back to was making the ball spin a little bit more. It was nice to see the old Ramos."
Courtney Ramos (4-1) got the win, scattering six hits over six innings while Kelsie Armstrong (4-4) took the loss for the Bears, giving up nine runs on seven hits.
"We got our bats going early," said Dobson. "LeJune leads off with a hit and Megan Hill hits a home run to tie the all-time record and puts us up 2-0. Then Ramos comes back and goes three-up and three-down. That's what we've been preaching because that's what we've been struggling with the last couple of games. We needed to come out and set the tone early offensively."
Megan Hill tied the all-time home run record when she launched a 3-1 pitch well over the leftfield fence in the opening inning to put the Eagles up 2-0. She is now tied with Kenya Peters, current coach at Jackson State.
UCA got a run back in the bottom of the second inning with one hit and aided by an Eagle error.
Southern Miss put up seven runs in the top of the third on six hits then added two more in the top of the sixth. Leslie LeJune, Jill Mathis and Alexis Hurley all recorded two hits apiece.
