Eagle Tennis wins both vs. West Florida

HATTIESBURG, Miss -- The Southern Miss Tennis Program went 2-0 today as both Men's and Women's Tennis team defeated West Florida today, 5-2.
The women secured the first point of the day on their half of the complex in doubles competition when Stephanie Dellocono and Lauren Gutterman locked up a victory at 8-6. The duo from Louisiana continues to add victories to their already impressive Golden Eagle careers.
Shannon Rogers and Zoe Lee paired up once more and were able to come away with an 8-6 victory.
On the other side of the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, the men kept things a bit more dramatic.
After splitting the first two doubles matches, brothers Diego Machuca and Oscar Machuca rallied from down 7-3 to pull back a 9-8 (7-2) victory for the Golden Eagles.
Jan Burmeister and Julien Roussel also picked up a victory in doubles competition to give the Eagles the first point of the match.
Once singles competition began, the women made quick work of the visiting Argos.
Elja van Berlo kept her opponent in check as she swiftly defeated Barbara Oliveira in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Gutterman, working alone this time, followed suit by the tune of 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles teammates earlier in the day, Rogers and Lee shared neighboring courts and each brought home hard fought victories. After falling in her first set, Lee was able to come back and win the second set and ensuing super tiebreaker, 4-6,7-6, 10-8. Rogers bested her opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
The men, as they had done earlier in the day, followed suit and won their singles matches early and often.
Patricio Alvarado was able to secure a victory with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 pair of sets.
The men now hit the road and will take on Clemson Feb. 27 while the women head north to take on Mississippi State Feb. 28.
