HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team looks to extend its current three-game winning streak when they play the first of two road games at Memphis, Friday, at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles (7-15 overall, 3-6 C-USA) are averaging 66.7 points per contest over the winning streak as they have converted 48.8 percent of their shots from the floor, 37.2 percent from 3-point range and 63.4 percent from the free throw line.
A big reason for that has success has come from Pauline Love, who has averaged 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds during this stretch. The senior will make her final regular-season appearance against UM some 60 miles from her home in Luxora, Ark., as she has averaged 16.6 points and 12.8 rebounds during the campaign, while tallying 14 double-doubles.
Freshman Danielle Johnson is averaging 13.3 points over this stretch as she has converted 11-of-20 3-pointers (55 percent), while Taneshia Washington is pouring in 13.0 points over the three games off the bench.
Geneshia Dunbar, the junior from Dallas, Texas, has started every game during this stretch and has posted 7.3 points and 8.3 rebounds to go along with five blocks.
This will be the 49th meeting between the two schools in women's basketball with UM holding a 26-22 advantage. Southern Miss, though, has won three of last four meetings against the Lady Tigers at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. UM did win the previous meeting between the two schools earlier this season, 60-57, at Reed Green Coliseum.
Memphis, which has lost two of its last three games including a 68-62 decision at Houston last Sunday, comes into the contest with a 13-9 overall record and 6-3 in Conference USA.
The Lady Tigers are led by Brittany Carter, who is averaging 18.1 points per contest. Alex Winchell is next at 9.1 points a game, while Nicole Dickson is at 8.4.
The game can be heard by WXHB-FM, 96.5, with Josh West providing the call. Gametracker is available for free and a webcast of the game can be seen for members of Southern Miss All-Access at SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss concludes the two-game road swing Sunday in a 2 p.m., contest at UAB in Bartow Arena.
